Activities

Our activities reflect our commitment to achieving these objectives. For over 40 years, Friends of India Society International (FISI) has organized conferences, seminars, and events to promote our cause. Prominent figures, including politicians, academics, and thought leaders, have contributed to our efforts. In addition, FISI has hosted charitable events to raise funds for various humanitarian projects in India, including:

  • Education and Health Programs: Supporting initiatives that promote learning and health in India.
  • Aid to Families of Policemen: Assisting families of police officers affected by militant attacks.
  • Enabled the Disabled Project: Providing artificial limbs to disabled individuals.
  • Emergency Relief: Donating funds for earthquake and flood relief efforts.
  • Support for Families of Soldiers: Assisting the families of soldiers injured or martyred in the line of duty.

Key Events and Engagements:

  • Economic Seminar on India’s Liberalization: Held at the London School of Economics in 1992, focusing on the liberalization of India’s economy.

Distinguished Visitors: Hosting functions and lectures for key Indian leaders such as Shri L. K. Advani, Late Shri Kidar Nath Sahani, Late Shri Dattopant Thengadi, Shri Narendra Modi, Late Shri Ashok Singhal, and others.

Engagement with Stakeholders:

FISI officials have engaged in dialogues and meetings with key figures, including:

The High Commissioner and Deputy High Commissioner of India, Jewish community leaders, TUC officials, ethnic press representatives, and others.

We have also issued press statements on:

  • Interference by foreign countries in India’s internal affairs.
  • Human rights issues and the oppression of Indian people in Pakistan and Bangladesh.
  • The Kashmir issue, asserting it as an integral part of India.
  • Anti-Indian sentiments and issues locally.

We have lobbied British and European politicians to promote a better understanding of India’s position on various matters, and we regularly publish literature to inform the public when necessary.

The Ongoing Role of FISI

FISI continues to be a vocal, impartial, and non-governmental advocate for India, particularly in addressing anti-India issues. Our sustained campaigns have played a significant role in improving the way Western media portrays India.

As a lobby and pressure group for both local (UK) and international issues, we have a small but dedicated group of members working towards our goals. However, we are always open to expanding our team and welcome those who share our vision to join us.
